| Is it a good area to stay? | Yes. Built around Bugis MRTMap, it has outstanding transport, heritage character and halal food on your doorstep, and a wide price range |
|---|---|
| Best precinct for first-timers | Bugis/Bras BasahMap for transport, malls and museums, or Kampong Glam for character. They sit a 5 to 10 minute walk apart |
| Cheapest beds | Capsules, pods and hostels, from about S$25 for a dorm and around S$35 for a premium pod |
| Best for couples & character | Kampong Glam and Arab StreetMap heritage boutiques near Haji LaneMap, such as The Sultan and Hotel NuVe |
| Best for luxury | Frasers House for Peranakan heritage or Andaz for a rooftop and infinity pool, both right on Bugis MRT |
| Best for families & pools | The bigger Beach Road and Rochor hotels, such as PARKROYAL, Hotel Boss, Grand Pacific and Village Hotel Bugis |
| The honest caveats | Heritage and budget rooms run small, mind street, mosque and road noise, and some capsules have no lift |
| When rates spike | F1 (early October), Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, National Day (August), December and stadium event nights; +9% GST and +10% service may apply |

Bugis and Kampong Glam are one of Singapore’s best-value central bases, mixing heritage character, halal food and superb transport in a single walkable district. The catch is that this one area splits into four pockets with different vibes, prices and noise levels, so the smart move is to choose your precinct before you choose a hotel. For the bigger picture, start with our complete Singapore travel guide.

1. The short answer: where to stay in Bugis & Kampong Glam
For a first trip, base in Bugis and Bras Basah for connectivity or Kampong Glam for heritage character, then narrow down by traveller type. Budget travellers head to capsules and hostels, couples and design lovers to the Kampong Glam boutiques, luxury to Frasers House or Andaz, and families wanting a pool to the bigger Beach Road and Rochor hotels.
| If you want… | Stay here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Transport, shopping, museums | Bugis / Bras Basah | Bugis MRT interchange, malls and the arts belt on your doorstep |
| Heritage character, couples | Kampong Glam / Arab Street | Shophouse boutiques, Haji Lane and halal food |
| Family, pool, value facilities | Beach Road / Rochor | Bigger hotels with real pools and roomier rooms |
| The cheapest bed possible | Capsules, pods, hostels (all over) | Dorms from about S$25, still in the centre |
We have not stayed at these hotels ourselves. Instead we cross-check real public reviews with price and map data and name the downsides as clearly as the upsides. There are no staged photos or pretend first-hand tales here, which makes this less an advert and more a comparison table you can actually decide with.
Price legend (per night, SGD, dry-season indicative, always check live): $ under S$120 · $$ S$120 to 220 · $$$ S$220 to 380 · $$$$ S$380 and up.
For the full picture see our complete Singapore travel guide, for what to do in the quarter see exploring Kampong Glam, and to weigh it against other areas see our Singapore neighbourhood stay overview.
2. Choose your precinct: the four areas compared
Small as it looks, Bugis and Kampong Glam split into four pockets with different vibes, prices and noise levels. Settle on a precinct first and choosing a hotel gets far easier.
| Zone | Vibe | Price | Best for | Nearest MRT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bugis / Bras Basah | Central hub, arts and shopping, luxury towers | $ to $$$$ | First-timers, luxury, transport-first | Bugis, Bencoolen, Bras Basah |
| Kampong Glam / Arab Street | Heritage shophouses, Haji Lane, halal food | $ to $$$ | Couples, design, character | Bugis, Nicoll Highway |
| Beach Road / Rochor | Bigger hotels, pools, value | $ to $$$ | Families, pool-wanters, facilities | Nicoll Highway, Lavender, Rochor |
| Capsules, pods, hostels | Budget, spread across the district | $ | Solo, backpackers, stopovers | Around Bugis |
The mental map is simple. Bugis MRT (Downtown and East-West lines) sits at the centre, with Nicoll Highway, Lavender, Rochor, Bras Basah and Bencoolen stations all within a walk. Wherever you base, once you have the Singapore MRT how-to down, getting around town is easy, and from halal spreads to hawker classics the food is mapped out in our hawker food guide.

3. Bugis & Bras Basah: best for transport, arts & luxury towers
Bugis and Bras Basah wrap around the Bugis MRT interchange, giving this precinct the widest range in the district, from luxury towers to value beds. Bugis JunctionMap and Bugis+ shopping, the National Museum, SAM and Peranakan Museum arts belt, and several MRT lines all sit in one place.

Frasers House, a Luxury Collection Hotel (formerly InterContinental Singapore)
The former InterContinental Singapore reopened in January 2026 as Frasers House, a Luxury Collection hotel by Marriott. It is the same heritage building fused into Bugis Junction mall with a direct Bugis MRT link, so you barely have to step outside, and the Peranakan-influenced heritage design carries over.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Mall and MRT connected, unbeatable location | A phased renovation is still under way after the 2026 rebrand |
| Distinctive Peranakan heritage building | Reviews under the new Frasers House name are still building up |
| Luxury Collection service and strong dining (Cantonese Man Fu Yuan, Italian LUCE) | Full luxury pricing |
Best for: travellers who want heritage character and luxury service with mall-and-MRT convenience.
Skip if: you want a rooftop-bar or infinity-pool scene, or a bargain.
Andaz Singapore
Occupying floors 25 to 39 of the DUO Tower, this 5-star lifestyle hotel leads with high-floor views, a Level 25 infinity pool and the Mr StorkMap rooftop bar on 39. Set between Kampong Glam, Little India and Bras Basah, it puts the most atmospheric quarters within a walk.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| High-floor city and Marina views | The height unsettles some, and the DUO arrival is maze-like |
| Level 25 infinity pool plus a rooftop bar | Pool and rooftop get busy and buzzy, not a quiet retreat |
| Design-forward feel and strong food and drink | Lifestyle service is less formal than a classic 5-star |
Best for: design and rooftop-loving couples who want views, a social pool and Kampong Glam on the doorstep.
Skip if: you want hushed traditional luxury or dislike heights and complex layouts.
Mercure Singapore Bugis
A 4-star upper-midscale hotel with something rare at this price, a Level 7 outdoor 25m infinity pool and hot tub. The rooms are clean and modern, and value scores run high.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Level 7 25m lap pool and hot tub, generous for the price | Rooms are small with limited storage |
| Modern, clean rooms and strong reviews | Some open-plan bathrooms mean less privacy |
| Central near three MRT lines, friendly service | Occasional street or room noise |
Best for: mid-budget travellers who still want a proper lap pool and a central modern base.
Skip if: you need spacious rooms or fully enclosed bathrooms.
Rendezvous Hotel Singapore
An art-themed 4-star upscale hotel in the Bras Basah arts district, with a standout triple-MRT position (Bencoolen about 1 minute, Bras Basah 3, Dhoby Ghaut 5). The spacious art-themed rooms feel like good value for the tier.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Three stations within walking reach | Styling is a touch dated and corporate next to newer boutiques |
| Spacious, comfortable art-themed rooms | The pool is modest, not a rooftop showpiece |
| Quiet yet central, with solid service | Less nightlife buzz than the Bugis core |
Best for: museum and arts-district visitors who want spacious upscale rooms and unbeatable MRT access.
Skip if: you want the heart of Bugis shopping and nightlife or a design-scene hotel.
One note: lyf Bugis is the former Hotel G (and BIG Hotel before that), now reborn as a co-living property, so treat it as a social, shared-kitchen, long-stay place rather than a design boutique. Housekeeping is not daily and rooms are small.
For what to see in the quarter, continue with exploring Kampong Glam, and to work out how many days to give it, see our Singapore itinerary planner.
4. Kampong Glam, Arab Street & Haji Lane: heritage boutique & character
Kampong Glam and Arab Street are the heritage shophouse quarter, with Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane and halal food spread right outside the lobby. For atmosphere and couples’ appeal, this is one of Singapore’s most characterful neighbourhoods.
| Hotel | Style | Price | Best for | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Sultan | Heritage shophouse boutique (about 60 rooms) | $$ | Couples, design, character | Rate & photos → |
| Village Hotel Bugis | 4-star mid (larger rooms, two pools) | $$ | Families, space, Kampong Glam access | Rate & photos → |
| Hotel NuVe Bugis | 3-star design boutique (Arab Street) | $ to $$ | Solo, budget-minded couples | Rate & photos → |
| Coliwoo Hotel Kampong GlamMap | 3-star co-living (new in 2025) | $$ to $$$ | Long stays, self-catering | Rate & photos → |
| Heritage Collection on ArabMap | Shophouse aparthotel (digital check-in) | $$ | Self-catering, heritage design | Rate & photos → |
| Hotel Clover 769 North Bridge RoadMap | 3-star value boutique | $ | Budget plus location | Rate & photos → |
The Sultan
A heritage boutique spread across about ten early-1900s shophouses at Sultan Gate, with Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane and Arab Street food all within a walk. Genuine heritage character is its calling card.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Authentic shophouse heritage atmosphere | Weak sound insulation means street and room noise |
| Friendly, accommodating staff | Some rooms show dampness, stained paint or dim lighting |
| High-ceilinged heritage rooms and a rooftop terrace | Loft rooms have steep, narrow stairs |
Best for: couples and design lovers who want authentic heritage character in the heart of Kampong Glam.
Skip if: you need bright modern rooms, quiet sleep or step-free access.
Village Hotel Bugis
Formerly the Golden Landmark, this 4-star hotel has rooms noticeably larger than the Singapore norm and best-in-class access to Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane and halal dining. Two pool areas and a gym make it a strong family pick.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Rooms larger than the Singapore average | Decor is functional and a touch dated rather than stylish |
| Minutes from Sultan Mosque and Haji Lane | Service can slow at peak times |
| Two pools, a gym and a halal-inclusive breakfast | Comfort over character, not a luxury or design stay |
Best for: families and travellers who prioritise space, Kampong Glam on the doorstep and a real pool.
Skip if: you want boutique design or high-end finishes.
Hotel NuVe Bugis
A 3-star design boutique in pre-war conservation shophouses on Arab Street, with a prime Haji Lane location and tidy upkeep. Small touches like a rooftop terrace and rainfall showers round it out.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Prime Arab Street and Haji Lane location | Rooms are very small and some are awkwardly laid out |
| Clean rooms, daily housekeeping, comfy beds | Website photos make rooms look bigger than they are |
| Warm service and a rooftop terrace | Open-plan bathrooms are not to all tastes |
Best for: solo travellers and budget-minded couples who want a stylish base steps from Haji Lane.
Skip if: you need space, storage or an enclosed bathroom.
Coliwoo Hotel Kampong Glam
Opened in May 2025 on Arab Street, this 3-star co-living hotel pairs well-designed compact rooms with apartment-grade kit (Nespresso, microwave, washer-dryer, fridge). It suits longer, self-catering stays.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Brand-new, well-designed rooms | Rooms are tiny |
| In-room washer-dryer and other apartment amenities | Thin walls mean you hear neighbours |
| Clean shared spaces and complimentary heritage tours | Some rooms have frosted or no real windows and feel pricey for the size |
Best for: longer stays and self-catering travellers who want new-build co-living on Arab Street.
Skip if: you want a view, a real window, sound privacy or a spacious room.
Two more to know: Heritage Collection on Arab offers self-catering shophouse apartments in the exact Arab Street core, but it is fully digital with no front desk and only weekly housekeeping, while Hotel Clover 769 scores on value and location yet has weak soundproofing.
Local food and sights continue in exploring Kampong Glam and our hawker food guide.

5. Beach Road & Rochor: bigger hotels, real pools & value
Beach Road and Rochor gather the district’s proper full-service hotels with pools, plus good value, making this the precinct for families and facilities. Toward Nicoll Highway and Lavender it turns into the quieter fringe.
| Hotel | Style | Price | Best for | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PARKROYAL on Beach Road | 4-star full-service (rooftop pool, views) | $$$ | A pool plus genuine full service | Rate & photos → |
| Hotel Boss | 4-star mega-hotel (~1,500 rooms, rooftop pool) | $$ | Value with pool and MRT | Rate & photos → |
| Village Hotel Albert Court | 4-star heritage boutique (Rochor 1 min, no pool) | $$ | Heritage plus top MRT access | Rate & photos → |
| Hotel Grand PacificMap | 4-star (spacious rooms, rooftop pool) | $$ | Space and a pool near Bugis | Rate & photos → |
| Hotel TraveltineMap (Wyndham) | 3 to 4-star chain (rooftop pool) | $$ | Chain standard with a pool | Rate & photos → |
PARKROYAL on Beach Road
The only true full-service hotel with a proper pool in this pocket, its 4-star draw is a rooftop pool with skyline, Singapore FlyerMap and Marina Bay SandsMap views, backed by a club lounge, spa, gym and real restaurants. (It is a different property from PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay.)
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Rooftop outdoor pool with skyline views | The priciest in the zone by a margin |
| Genuine full service (lounge, spa, restaurants) | Occasional service lapses at check-in and food and drink |
| Walkable to Bugis, Arab Street and Suntec | Feels corporate-business rather than boutique-charming |
Best for: travellers who want a real full-service hotel with a pool near Kampong Glam and Suntec.
Skip if: you are on a budget or want boutique heritage character.
Hotel Boss
At around 1,500 rooms, this is one of Singapore’s largest 4-star hotels, and its strength is value: a pool and access to two MRT lines, plus a food court and shops on the lobby level.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| 4-star value with a pool and MRT access | Rooms are small and can feel cramped |
| Rooftop pool and terrace, lobby food court | Poor sound insulation means corridor and room noise |
| Central to Kampong Glam, Bugis and Little India | Big and impersonal, with a crowded, chaotic breakfast |
Best for: value seekers who want a pool and MRT access and will not linger in the room.
Skip if: you want space, quiet or a personal, boutique feel. Note it sits on the Jalan Sultan side, closer to Lavender MRT (about 5 minutes).
Village Hotel Albert Court
A 4-star boutique in restored pre-war shophouses with Peranakan decor, its biggest asset is location: Rochor MRTMap about 1 minute away and Little India food next door. There is no pool, though.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Peranakan heritage charm | Rooms feel dated and dull for the price |
| Rochor MRT 1 minute, three stations in reach | No pool |
| Friendly service and a breakfast with Indian dishes | Sits on the Little India edge rather than Kampong Glam proper |
Best for: travellers who value heritage character and top-tier MRT access over facilities.
Skip if: you need a pool or modern rooms.
Two more here: Hotel Grand Pacific offers spacious rooms (rare for Singapore) and a rooftop pool at fair value, while Hotel Traveltine has a rooftop pool but limited evening dining, with its restaurant and bar closing around 7:30pm and no room service.
Travelling with children? See our Singapore with kids guide, and if a skyline pool is the goal, compare our Marina Bay stay guide too.
6. Capsules, pods & hostels: the cheapest beds in the district
If budget comes first, the district’s capsules, pods and hostels keep you central for the lowest prices around. A capsule is an enclosed private pod, a pod is a futuristic single-person space, and a hostel mixes dorms and private rooms.
| Property | Style | Price | Best for | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Pod @ Beach Road | Premium capsule (Queen Pods for couples) | $ | Solo, budget couples | Rate & photos → |
| MET A Space Pod @ Arab Street | Futuristic pod (adults only) | $ | Solo, stopover, Arab Street | Rate & photos → |
| Cube @ Kampong Glam | Design capsule (free breakfast) | $ | Backpackers, solo | Rate & photos → |
| Bugis SocialMap | Hostel (2 to 3 min walk to Bugis MRT) | $ | Solo, groups, most central | Rate & photos → |
| THE ROOM BUGISMap | Capsule hostel | $ | Budget solo, stopover | Rate & photos → |
| Rest Bugis HotelMap | Budget private-room hotel (rooftop pool, ex-Santa Grand) | $ | Budget couples, private room plus pool | Rate & photos → |
| Dream LodgeMap | Capsule hostel (Lavender edge, female-only dorm) | $ | Cleanliness-focused, solo female | Rate & photos → |
The Pod @ Beach Road
One of Singapore’s better-reviewed premium capsules, it wins on cleanliness and well-designed pods (privacy roller shades, personal light and socket, 300-thread-count sheets), and it even has Queen Pods for couples.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Consistently clean and modern | Shared bathrooms |
| Pods with privacy, lighting and sockets sorted | No window and tight for luggage |
| Friendly staff and rare couple-friendly Queen Pods | On the CBD fringe, not right on top of an MRT |
Best for: solo travellers and budget couples who want a polished premium capsule near Haji Lane.
Skip if: you need a private ensuite or a real room.
MET A Space Pod @ Arab Street
An adults-only pod with sci-fi styling, its draws are lockable capsules, a spot right by Sultan Mosque and Haji Lane, and some of the cheapest capsule rates in Singapore.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Futuristic design, each pod lockable for security | No lift, so it is stairs only |
| Clean and surprisingly roomy for a capsule | Patchy WiFi at the entrance can complicate after-hours check-in |
| Heart of Arab Street, very cheap | Limited storage and thin soundproofing |
Best for: solo and stopover travellers who want a novelty pod in the heart of Arab Street.
Skip if: you sleep lightly, need a lift or feel claustrophobic.
Cube @ Kampong Glam
A design capsule in a renovated heritage building steps from Haji Lane, with quirky well-made pods, a free self-serve breakfast (omelette station) and strong value.
| Guests love | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Characterful design capsules and comfy beds | Mixed reviews on shared-bathroom cleanliness |
| Free self-serve breakfast | No lift, lots of stairs and no daily housekeeping |
| Plenty of food nearby, next to Haji Lane | Can be noisy and the app check-in confuses some |
Best for: backpackers and solo travellers who want a design-led capsule with breakfast in Kampong Glam.
Skip if: you need a lift, daily housekeeping or a private bathroom.
A few others round out the zone: Bugis Social is essentially next to Bugis MRT and Bugis StreetMap; THE ROOM BUGIS stands out for cleanliness and self-service facilities; Rest Bugis is the outlier, a budget hotel with private ensuite rooms and even a rooftop pool and jacuzzi rather than a capsule; and Dream Lodge sits on the Lavender and Jalan Besar edge (a little outside the core) but earns praise for spotless pods and a female-only dorm.
For when to go, see our best time to visit Singapore guide, and to build the days, see our Singapore itinerary planner.

7. Best Bugis & Kampong Glam stay by traveller type
If you already know your type, pick straight from the table below. We have used real hotel names throughout.
| You are… | Stay here | Because | Second choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-timer | Frasers House / Village Hotel Bugis | Balance of transport, location and character | Mercure Bugis |
| Budget / backpacker | Cube @ Kampong Glam / The Pod | Cheapest beds in a central spot | Bugis Social |
| Couple | The Sultan / Hotel NuVe | Heritage boutique atmosphere | Andaz |
| Luxury | Andaz / Frasers House | Rooftop and infinity pool, or heritage | PARKROYAL on Beach Road |
| Business | Frasers House / PARKROYAL | Direct MRT link and full service | Rendezvous |
| Family | Village Hotel Bugis / Grand Pacific | Larger rooms plus a pool | Hotel Boss |
| Design lover | Hotel NuVe / Coliwoo | Shophouse design and new-build co-living | The Sultan |
| Muslim / halal-focused | Village Hotel Bugis / Kampong Glam boutiques | Halal food and the mosque at the centre | The Sultan |
| Nightlife | Andaz / near Haji Lane | Rooftop bar and the bar strip within a walk | Hotel NuVe |
| Transit / stopover | Bugis Social / The Pod | Walk to Bugis MRT, easy for short stays | Rest Bugis |
| Long stay | Coliwoo / lyf Bugis | Kitchen and laundry, self-catering setup | Heritage Collection on Arab |
| Solo | The Pod / MET A Space Pod | Private-feeling pods, cheap | Cube @ Kampong Glam |
8. Which hotels have a pool, and which do not
In this district a pool is one of the biggest things that sets hotels apart. Sorting it out up front makes choosing easier.
| Has a pool | No pool |
|---|---|
| Andaz (Level 25 infinity pool) | Village Hotel Albert Court |
| Mercure Bugis (Level 7 25m pool) | ibis budget Bugis |
| PARKROYAL on Beach Road (rooftop) | Strand Hotel |
| Hotel Boss (rooftop) | Victoria Hotel |
| Hotel Grand Pacific (rooftop) | All capsules, pods and hostels |
| Hotel Traveltine (rooftop) | Frasers House (has a quiet pool deck) |
| Village Hotel Bugis (two pools), Rest Bugis (rooftop plus jacuzzi), Hotel Clover 769 (rooftop jacuzzi) |
Not all pools feel the same. The rooftop pools at Andaz and Hotel Boss have a lively, busy scene, while PARKROYAL and Grand Pacific are more relaxed. Pick the latter for a quiet swim and the former for atmosphere and views.

9. Is Bugis & Kampong Glam a good base? Honest pros & cons
The short answer is yes, it works as a base for most travellers. Just weigh the upsides and downsides together before you commit.
Pros
- Excellent transport built around the Bugis interchange
- Heritage character at Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane and Arab Street
- Halal food everywhere, plus strong arts and shopping
- A wide price range, from capsules to luxury
Cons
- Small rooms in budget and heritage places
- Night and road noise in some pockets
- Busy areas like Bugis Street get crowded
- Fewer resort-scale pools than Marina Bay
We will be honest about when another area fits better. If icons and skyline pools are the point, go for our Marina Bay stay guide; for shopping, our Orchard stay guide; and for temples and hawker density, our Chinatown stay guide.
10. Getting around from Bugis & Kampong Glam
This is one of the best-connected bases in Singapore. Everything radiates from the Bugis interchange, with several other stations within a walk.
- Bugis MRT (Downtown and East-West lines): Frasers House and Andaz link straight in underground, and Bugis Social is a 2 to 3 minute walk
- Bencoolen MRT: Strand is right outside and Rendezvous is about 1 minute away
- Rochor MRT: Village Hotel Albert Court is about 1 minute away
- Nicoll Highway MRTMap: PARKROYAL, The Pod and Traveltine are walkable, and quieter than the core
- Lavender MRT: Hotel Boss is about 5 minutes away
Changi is roughly a 20 minute drive or 25 to 35 minutes by MRT. You can tap in with a contactless foreign credit or debit card, so a separate pass is not essential. For the details, see our Singapore MRT how-to and our Changi Airport guide.

11. Eating & exploring around your hotel
Step out of the lobby and you have Haji Lane cafes, Arab Street, halal hawker food and the arts belt on your doorstep. This is a great neighbourhood for eating and walking.
Around Sultan Mosque you will find halal staples like nasi padang, murtabak and satay, and Haji Lane’s cafes and bars carry the evening. The Bras Basah arts belt (National Museum, SAM, Peranakan Museum) is walkable too, and Indian food is one stop away in Little India.
If you are missing Korean or Japanese food, Bugis and Bras Basah have plenty of options, and for a halal-focused trip, Kampong Glam is truly the centre of it all. For a wider food map see our hawker food guide, for local sights see exploring Kampong Glam, and for the neighbour next door see our Little India guide.
12. How many nights, and Bugis vs other bases
Bugis and Kampong Glam can handle a whole Singapore trip from a single base. The transport is so good that day trips anywhere are easy.
On a short trip, one hotel here is plenty while you loop around the centre. For four nights or more, adding a night or two on SentosaMap or in Marina Bay changes the mood nicely, so you might split between here and our Marina Bay stay guide for icons and skyline pools, our Orchard stay guide for shopping, or our Chinatown stay guide for temples and hawker food. For the overall flow, see our Singapore itinerary planner.

13. Booking tips: when to book & what you will pay
Book ahead for F1 (early October), Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, National Day (August), December and National StadiumMap event nights, when rates jump. Outside those, a few weeks in advance is usually enough.
As a recap, the price legend is $ under S$120 · $$ S$120 to 220 · $$$ S$220 to 380 · $$$$ S$380 and up. Advertised rates can attract 9% GST and a 10% service charge, but the figure shown on booking sites is usually the all-in total, so nothing extra is added at payment. Compare with confidence, and if your dates are still loose, lock in a free-cancellation rate first. Reckon on capsules and pods from about S$25 for a dorm, boutiques from the S$120s and luxury from S$380 and up. For seasonal patterns, see our best time to visit Singapore guide.
14. Plan the rest of your Singapore trip
Pick your precinct, check live rates for your dates, and Bugis and Kampong Glam repay you with character, food and connectivity.
Here is where to head next. For the full picture see our complete Singapore travel guide, for local sights see exploring Kampong Glam, for food our hawker food guide, and for getting around our Singapore MRT how-to and Changi Airport guide. For other areas to stay, compare Marina Bay, Orchard and Chinatown, or the full neighbourhood stay overview. Then map out the days with our itinerary planner, plan evenings with our nightlife guide, time your visit with our best time to visit, travel with children via our Singapore with kids guide, and explore the neighbours in our Little India guide and complete neighbourhoods guide.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Bugis is one of the most central, best-connected bases in the city, with heritage character, halal food and a wide price range that suits most travellers. The Bugis interchange puts the Downtown and East-West lines under one roof, and Nicoll Highway, Lavender, Rochor and Bras Basah stations are all a short walk away, so getting anywhere is easy. The trade-offs are small rooms in budget and heritage places and some night noise in the livelier pockets.
Choose Bugis and Bras Basah for transport, malls and museums, or Kampong Glam and Arab Street for heritage boutiques, Haji Lane and character. The two sit a 5 to 10 minute walk apart, so you get both whichever way you lean. If you want a luxury tower, base in Bugis; if you want shophouse charm, narrow it down to Kampong Glam.
Capsule hotels, pods and hostels offer the cheapest beds, from roughly S$25 to S$45, with Rest Bugis as a good option if you want a private budget room that even has a pool. The Pod, MET A Space Pod, Cube @ Kampong Glam and Bugis Social all sit centrally for very little money. Just factor in shared bathrooms, thin walls and, in a few places, no lift.
Frasers House stands out for its Peranakan heritage suites wired into Bugis Junction, and Andaz Singapore for high-floor rooms, a Level 25 infinity pool and a rooftop bar. Both connect straight into Bugis MRT, so you can come and go whatever the weather. Pick Frasers House for heritage feel and Andaz for the rooftop and pool scene.
The Sultan, Hotel NuVe, Coliwoo, Heritage Collection on Arab and Village Hotel Bugis are all a short walk away, and if you want a capsule, MET A Space Pod and Cube @ Kampong Glam sit right in the Arab Street quarter. For authentic shophouse character go with The Sultan; for larger rooms and a pool, Village Hotel Bugis is a strong starting point.
Very. Kampong Glam is the historic Malay and Arab quarter, so halal food is everywhere and Sultan Mosque sits at its heart. Stay at Village Hotel Bugis or one of the Kampong Glam boutiques and you are right in the middle of it, with nasi padang, murtabak and satay just steps from the lobby.
Some pockets are, yes. Haji Lane bars, Bugis Street crowds, the mosque call to prayer and road-facing rooms are the main sources. Ask for a high or inner room and it improves a lot, and Bras Basah and the Beach Road fringe are noticeably quieter. If you sleep lightly, check the room’s position before you book.
Andaz (Level 25 infinity pool), Mercure Bugis (Level 7 25m pool), PARKROYAL on Beach Road, Hotel Boss, Hotel Grand Pacific, Hotel Traveltine and Village Hotel Bugis all have pools. Most capsules, plus Village Hotel Albert Court and the budget hotels (ibis budget, Strand, Victoria), do not. Frasers House has a quiet pool deck. If pool time matters, sort by this first.
Marina Bay is about 5 to 10 minutes by MRT or taxi, Orchard about 5 to 10 minutes by MRT, and Changi roughly a 20 minute drive or 25 to 35 minutes by MRT.
